Pharmacist Participation on ICU Rounds and Adverse Drug Events: Leape et al.
摘要
Can pharmacist involvement in ICU rounds reduce adverse drug events? The study by Leape et al. evaluated the impact of pharmacist participation in physician rounds on the incidence of adverse drug events (ADEs) in the ICU. This prospective, observational study compared ICU patients with and without pharmacist involvement during daily rounds. The results showed a significant reduction in ADEs when pharmacists were included in rounds, particularly in medication errors related to drug interactions, dosing, and administration. The study concluded that active pharmacist participation in the ICU team can substantially improve patient safety and medication management, advocating for greater integration of pharmacists into critical care settings.
