Which modality of renal replacement therapy may be preferred in patients with acute renal failure and multiorgan dysfunction syndrome? The HEMODIAFE trial was a multicenter, randomized controlled trial comparing continuous veno-venous hemodiafiltration (CVVHDF) to intermittent hemodialysis (IHD) for the treatment of acute renal failure in patients with multiple organ dysfunction syndrome (MODS). The study aimed to evaluate the impact of these two renal replacement therapies on survival rates, organ function, and complications. The results demonstrated no significant difference in mortality or other major outcomes between the two treatment strategies. Both modalities provided similar benefits in terms of renal recovery and overall clinical improvement, suggesting that either CVVHDF or IHD could be used effectively in patients with acute renal failure and MODS.
