This chapter explores perioperative care for older adults, emphasizing a more humanistic experience. In this, we propose the adoption of a relationship-centered care model that places equal emphasis on technical skill and relational competency. It reflects on the complexities of geriatric perioperative care, addressing challenges not commonly reported, like care refusal, postoperative delirium, immobility syndrome, and failure to thrive. The chapter highlights the critical role of nonpharmacological interventions, including perioperative interdisciplinary care plans. Central to the discussion is the application of the Humanitude care methodology, which provides tools and techniques to build effective relationships throughout the surgical journey and change the care model. The chapter demonstrates how balancing technological advancements with humanistic approaches can improve outcomes and experiences for older surgical clients. It concludes with a call to action for healthcare professionals to cultivate relational skills and drive systemic changes in geriatric surgical practices.
