A comprehensive examination of transportation planning necessitates exploring both passenger and freight transportation to foster the overall development of the relevant infrastructure. Freight research in India is at nascent stage even after its significant contribution towards the transportation of good and services. This study, therefore, attempts to assess the existing literature of freight studies from India published between 2014–2023 for identifying the research voids and limitations. The key findings of the review show that there is a lack of freight database and research in northeast India. The absence of research for large scale industries and electrification of freight transport is acknowledged. This paper is anticipated to contribute towards the PM Gati Shakti—a master plan for multimodal connectivity—an initiative by GOI by encouraging additional research in freight and the development of its effective policy instruments in India.

摘要
