Agricultural Development and Food Security in Singapore
摘要
Singapore’s history of agriculture and food has been tumultuous. Agricultural production and efficiency advanced quickly in the first decade after independence, subsequently declined over the next few decades, but resurged due to food security concerns thereafter. Food policy, conversely, has been growing in strength through the decades, particularly in relation to food safety and acceptance of novel foods. This chapter utilises secondary data and available documentation to provide an overview of Singapore’s food and agriculture policies over the decades. It will also share the opportunities and challenges by the food and agriculture sector in Singapore, including the adoption of novel high-tech practices in food and agriculture. It will provide recommendations for improving the food and agriculture sector in Singapore.
