Investigating the Impact of Shading on Solar Photovoltaic Performance
摘要
Solar PV systems provide numerous benefits and offer a fantastic solution to common everyday problems. Utilizing clean energy, particularly from solar power is not only cost-effective but also environmentally friendly. Despite the numerous benefits, solar PV technology does have certain limitations that can impact its efficiency, with shading being a significant challenge. Shadow can originate from various factors like tree leaves, dirt, bird dropping, rain, clouds, or obstructions like poles. Shadow can have a negative impact on the performance of PV systems. Various techniques had been used to minimize the shading effect such as stringing arrangement, bypass diode, module-level power electronics (MLPE), dc optimizers and micro inverters. These methods are very expensive, hence the main purpose of this paper is to determine the simple technique that can be used to minimize the effect of shading on PV panel. Reflector can be used to improve the efficiency of PV panel under shading conditions. It also improves the efficiency of panel under normal conditions and it is a very simple and cost-effective technique. This research investigates the outcomes of photovoltaic panel with and without reflector under different shading scenarios. In the future scope, researchers can focus on developing innovative techniques to mitigate the power drop caused by shading in PV systems. This could involve exploring advanced shading detection and mitigation algorithms, incorporating smart tracking systems, or utilizing shading—resistant materials. By addressing these challenges, we can enhance the overall efficiency.
