Digital Society: Culture and Communication
摘要
Digital society represents a profound shift in how we interact, work, and live, driven by the rapid advancement of technology and the pervasive integration of digital tools into everyday life. Digital connectivity and information flow now redefine our social dynamics, economic activities, and cultural norms. Communication has become instantaneous and global, breaking down traditional barriers and fostering new forms of collaboration and community. Economic transactions and services are increasingly mediated through digital platforms, streamlining processes and creating new opportunities, while also presenting challenges related to privacy, security, and digital inequality. New digital communes have begun to influence cultural expression and personal identity, as online platforms become central to self-representation and social interaction. Such transformation highlights both the potential for innovation and the need for thoughtful consideration of the implications for individuals and society as a whole. This paper attempts to explore the socio-cultural impact of digital communication on new kinds of online and offline public spheres while charting a historiographical contour of the evolution and development of digital communication and related social media. A journey that’s coupled with ease and abundance of information, AI-based initiations, and interferences, this chapter will attempt to explore and analyse how digital communication mediated through our ever expanding digital society redefines spaces of familiarity such as the classroom, the office, the courthouse, hospitals or understanding of non-professional spaces of interactions, such as the family, as composite units of cultural expression and selfhood.
