Household Kitchen Waste: A Resource That Needs to Be Tapped
摘要
Household kitchen waste (HKW) presents a significant challenge due to its volume and decomposition tendencies, contributing to environmental pollution and greenhouse gas emissions. By converting this waste into biochar through controlled pyrolysis, not only can its detrimental impacts be mitigated, but its latent potential as a resource can also be unlocked. This chapter offers a succinct examination of the issue surrounding HKW and introduces the transformative concept of harnessing this waste as a valuable resource through biochar production. It further underscores the potential of biochar as a sustainable solution to the dual challenges of HKW management and environmental stewardship. By transforming waste into a valuable resource, kitchen waste biochar (KWB) not only addresses waste disposal issues but also contributes positively to agricultural productivity, soil health, and climate change mitigation. This chapter aims to explore these facets in greater detail, highlighting biochar’s role as a cornerstone in the sustainable management of kitchen waste (KW) and environmental conservation efforts.
