Enhancing Large Language Models for Low-Resource Languages: Challenges and Opportunities in Albanian Translation—A Case Study of “The Power of Now”
摘要
This research explores the challenges and opportunities in using Large Language Models (LLMs) for the translation of low-resource languages, with a focus on Albanian. Using The Power of Now—a spiritual text translated from English to Albanian by the author—as a case study, this paper assesses the ability of LLMs to translate complex, abstract language while preserving philosophical and cultural nuances. The study identifies common translation errors, such as mishandling of idiomatic expressions and failure to convey cultural context, and examines the susceptibility of LLMs to adversarial manipulation in low-resource languages. Additionally, the research proposes strategies to enhance LLM performance for Albanian translation, including enriching training data and implementing cross-lingual learning techniques. By incorporating human expertise and cultural sensitivity, this study fosters a more inclusive approach to AI-driven translation, ensuring that low-resource languages like Albanian are better represented. The findings offer valuable insights into improving LLMs for low-resource languages while addressing broader ethical and technical challenges, promoting inclusivity in cross-linguistic communication.
