With the society developing its technology more and more every single day, the concern related to the disposal of electronic waste popularly known as e—waste has gotten out of hand both socially and economically. E—waste includes all unwanted electrical and electronic equipment including, but not limited to, mobile phones, tablets, computers, and even kitchen and restroom cleaning machines which are inside such items, precious metals like gold, silver and rare earth metals. However, the reality is that both disposals and recycling's are adding to the degradation of the e—waste landscape considering majority of the regions are improving well being at high cost to certain populations. In almost all developing regions, informal e-waste recycling provides employment opportunities for many individuals. Yet such activities are always associated with very dangerous working conditions, exposure to different toxic substances, and exploitation of labor such as employing very young children. This chapter studies these social costs and focuses on the human health and well being of communities in different regions of the world as it pertains to electronic waste management. In spite of these challenges, e-waste is a massive economic asset for every country. When e-waste is well strategics, it can create employment, promote technological advancement, and even enhance the economic growth by retrieval of useful raw materials. However, the dilemma is in when one decides to over-weigh the opportunities with the responsibilities and purposes animating. The chapter further looks at the measures taken by various countries to combat e-waste from a global point of view including the international laws such as Basel convention and strategies such as Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR). Such policies are grounded on the ‘refill’ approach that augment the concept of a linear economy whereby the lifespan of e-waste is prolonged through processes, such as recycling, refurbishing, and recovery of resources. It is necessary to introduce radical and synchronous measures at a global level for the economic and social development of countries, without a negative impact on the environment.
