This study investigated the population stereotypes of everyday objects with rotational controls. We examined two types of objects: 1) single-function rotational controls, such as door handles and lamp rotary switches, and 2) rotational controls for adjusting output magnitudes, such as volume knobs. The data collection involved 102 Indonesians participants fill out an online questionnaire that primarily queried their stereotypes regarding the operation of the investigated objects. The average percentage of the population stereotypes was about 80%, with majority being statistically significant at p < 0.001. The study revealed that everyday objects with single-function rotational controls were predominantly perceived as functioning clockwise, primarily for tasks such as opening doors and turning lights on. Similarly, clockwise rotation of controls for adjusting output magnitudes was associated with positive outcomes, such as higher brightness and volumes.
