Specifically, intraepidermal melanin clearance is divided into the intracellular melanin clearance mechanism, which is referred to as the “activation of autophagosomes,” and the extracellular melanin clearance mechanism, which involves the “phagocytosis by Langerhans cells.” Intradermal melanin is phagocytosed by macrophages, a process known as the formation of “melanophages.” All intradermal melanin eventually moves into the lymphatic system, reaching the lymph nodes. Radiofrequency treatment induces the activation of autophagy and lymphatic drainage.
