There remains a notable gap in research focusing on the anthropometric classification of human ear shapes among the Chinese population, particularly across diverse age groups and geographical regions using 3D data, a critical aspect for designing ear-related products. In this study, 3D scanning and casting were utilized to collect 18 ear measurements from 1400 participants aged 15 to 79. Based on six key factors, human ear shapes were categorized into five distinct types. A significant correlation was observed between human ear types and age groups, suggesting that ear morphology may evolve with age. A comprehensive understanding of the auricle’s complex structure and its shape variations in mainland Chinese populations is vital for developing ergonomic, functional, and user-centric ear-related products.
