Fault Analysis on PV and Wind Integrated Microgrid System Using ETAP Software

The microgrid nowadays becomes more important for renewable energy especially in island areas and gets power in this kind of areas which are like using photovoltaic, solar power, wind energy, diesel generation, etc. Microgrid has become more important for improving energy resilience and sustainability. However, connecting more energy sources is very challenging. But in the island areas, they are not getting power supply, so most of them use microgrid with renewable energy. This chapter focuses on faults diagnostics and to make some protection schemes to make the reliable and safe operation in the microgrid. Types of faults are like three-phase fault, line-to-ground fault, etc. And to protect faults occurred in microgrid, we need to use some protection schemes like circuit breaker, relays, etc. Using ETAP (Electrical Transient Analyzer Program) software, the proposed protection strategies are simulated to assess their impact on system stability and fault response. The results from the simulations are showing the faults that occur in the single line of microgrid system using ETAP, and the protection schemes can effectively safeguard critical infrastructure and ensure the continuous operation of the microgrid under various fault scenarios, enhancing the overall resilience of the system.
