In the second chapter of Part III, the reasons why students do not enrol in an elective Languages subject are outlined. Common reasons for discontinuation of LOTE learning were negative past experiences and difficulty learning the subject. Students in this category chose other subjects that they believed to be more relevant and interesting overall, plus more relevant to their future careers and study. Quantitative and qualitative data are explored, highlighting that there are both willing and forced discontinuing students in the presented data.
