Medical images are a very vital aspect of medical practice and are required for the detection of several ailments and conditions that could not be diagnosed with the naked eye. Every pixel in the image can be required for the diagnosis procedure, and any distortion could lead to a faulty diagnosis. The healthcare industry has made significant advancements, allowing medical images to be shared and transferred across various regions. As medical images are transferred over public networks, there is a possibility of various security issues arising. These images are often stored in third-party cloud servers, and health information systems contain sensitive patient information. In this paper, we have combined the techniques of image cryptography and watermarking techniques to build a secure model for protecting medical images with the goal of achieving full recoverability and process reversibility. In the cryptography part, two methods for image encryption are proposed which use XOR operation for both encryption and decryption processes. Both methods use a common concept of using an image of the same size as a key for encrypting the original image and these methods are implemented in MATLAB.
