This study attempted to address why recovery projects following socio-natural disasters may gain different results. To the date of this study, the related literature suffers from ambiguous definitions of recovery projects’ success involving various stakeholders, which tend to be evaluated through different assessment criteria. Therefore, a clear definition of “success” is crucial for these projects. On the other hand, identifying the reasons affecting the dissimilar outcomes in recovery projects can provide us with a list of influential critical factors that affect recovery and assist disaster recovery managers in successfully managing recovery projects through wisely established guidelines. Although the case studies in this book are two destructive earthquakes that happened in Asia, the suggested management framework and recovery success dimensions and critical success factors identification were conducted based on the critical literature review of several resources, which discussed a various range of socio-natural disasters (Table  2.2 ). Moreover, the Delphi panel that verified those identified factors has global experience dealing with different disasters. However, attention should be paid to applying the results of this study to other cases, and it is necessary to carefully adjust the factors based on each case’s specific features.
