This research aims to understand how the construction industry in Sabah, Malaysia can accept Building Information Modelling (BIM) technology. BIM is a digital approach that enables users to create and manage interactive 3D models of construction projects, including information about structures, materials, and costs. This research examines external factors influencing BIM acceptance, such as technological factors (e.g., BIM system capabilities), organizational factors (e.g., organizational support for BIM usage), and individual factors (e.g., knowledge and attitudes toward BIM). A quantitative method was used, involving 30 BIM practitioners from the construction industry in Sabah. The Partial Least Squares-Structural Equation Modelling (PLS-SEM) method was used to test the proposed hypotheses. The study results show that only the actual use (AU) of BIM positively influences the perceived usefulness (PU) of BIM. However, other factors, such as BIM system capabilities, organizational support, and individual knowledge, do not significantly affect BIM acceptance. Additionally, this research found that the perceived usefulness (PU) of BIM does not act as a mediator between the perceived ease of use (PEOU) and the actual use (AU) of BIM in the construction industry in Sabah. These findings provide valuable insights to the Sabah Public Works Department (JKR) and the state government on factors influencing BIM usage in Sabah. The research outcomes can also be used to develop more effective strategies to encourage BIM adoption in the construction industry.
