For decades and perhaps more, we talk about future cities, and we see several [new] exemplars through different media. The soft power of indicating how future cities may look like has been very strong, yet it becomes a different case when we shed a light on the actual implementation of future cities. This conception of future living and future cities became stronger from the 1960s onwards when we started visioning flying cars, shiny stylish buildings, and alien-type clothing and gadgets. The propaganda in how the future cities may look like or appear to be, developed a prototype of future living in our minds. This approach was quite strong in order to avoid the issues of time and provide a set of imaginary views of how the future may become. In recent years and with the emergence of smart city movement, the ‘future cities’ debate is ever stronger. Nevertheless, this differs to the debate we have here on the ‘future of cities’. The argument on future cities has become so strong that we assume we will simply build stylish new cities from scratch or replace the majority of what exists on the ground to create what the future living may look like. This vision is incorrect and does not help our cities and their futures or projections of development.
