This chapter creates the theoretical context of a study that privileges multimodal agentic ways of being and becoming, in and through research. It represents a process for engaging with visual, material and affective pedagogies that destabilise normative values and the traditional sequence of theorising and analysing, making this a practice of relationality and reciprocity that stems from different and equally generous sources, to reimagine learning from others, their gestures, theories, experiences and art. The chapter holds the affective resonances that inspire the work, from artists and theorists and their particular and intersecting viewpoints, for seeing, feeling and understanding differently, critically, revising and reawakening the role of theorising in research with its social and cultural worth.
