Technological Interventions for Paediatric Motor Disabilities
摘要
Developmental and paediatric disabilities affect a significant number of children worldwide. Paediatric disabilities have a serious psychological and functional impact on the quality of life of children. Early intervention is crucial for achieving recovery and for promoting normal developmental processes. This chapter provides an overview of disabilities, including a wide range of conditions such as Cerebral Palsy, Spina Bifida, Muscular Dystrophies, Developmental Delay, Global Developmental Delay, and Juvenile Idiopathic Arthritis. The chapter explains how technology-assisted rehabilitation significantly impacts children’s recovery and performance through repetitive, engaging, and outcome-oriented activities grounded in the principles of neural plasticity and motor relearning. It highlights the innovations in technology, including robot-assisted training, virtual & augmented reality gamification platforms, wearable sensors, and Telerehabilitation platforms. The chapter also mentions the few challenges linked with these technologies and highlights the future direction of emerging technology to achieve maximum functional recovery in children.
