Translation from Urban Image to Artistic Language
摘要
This chapter delves into how artists engage with Macau’s urban environment through creative interaction. Through detailed documentation of field research and on-site explorations by 21 groups of participating artists, it reveals their methods of observing, interpreting, and internalizing the city’s spatial characteristics, cultural landmarks, and daily life. The chapter examines approaches to transforming the Mountain-Sea-City imagery into artistic language, including visual symbolism, cross-media expressions, and representations of both tangible and intangible heritage. By analyzing the reinterpretation of elements like mountain ranges, oceans, and urban settlements in artworks, it highlights Macau’s multicultural narratives and urban identity. Combining artists’ creative processes with the presentation of final works, this chapter vividly demonstrates the dynamic dialogue between urban environments and artistic interpretation, elucidating how Macau’s imagery transforms into multidimensional artistic expressions that carry cultural memory and contemporary relevance.
