Mahatma Gandhi embodies a moral life based on truth and service to others which are necessary for our schools. Gandhi’s leadership encompasses self-awareness, silent and non-violent resistance, and morality. Accordingly, self-doubt is a sign of strength in leaders who must relate to their people, and, consequently, selflessness is the essence of leadership. The meanings of selflessness, connectedness, moral reasoning, and service in educational leadership are analyzed to better understand the leader’s inner calling in oriental societies, in general, and in educational systems, in particular. The elements of peaceful educational leadership are illuminated.
