Water Use and Wastewater Sources in Downstream and Marketing Operations
摘要
PetroleumPetroleum refineries are large complexes comprising of multiple process units that are integrated together to receive crudes from upstream operations and produce refined products for distribution and marketing. These are supported by the utility systems including water and wastewater treatmentWastewater treatment, and steam and power generation, which are critical to the smooth operation of a refinery complex as a whole. The quality and quantity of wastewater generated by any industrial chemical process is largely influenced by the feed and the products of that industry. With that in view, a brief overview of all the important unit operations and processes of a refinery has been presented in this chapter with the details of where water is used as well as discussions of the sources, flows and characteristics of wastewater generated. This includes a detailed discussion of water treatment for steam generationSteam generationand cooling waterCooling water circulation systems which are essential utilities supporting the successful operation of an integrated refinery complex.
