Yopo wood (Piptadenia peregrina Benth.) is one of lesser-known wood species with an Mean Annual Increment (MAI) of 2.77 cm/year. This research investigated the physical and mechanical properties, anatomical features, and chemical components of Yopo wood. The branches of Yopo wood by 10 cm in diameters obtained from the Purwodadi Botanical Garden in Pasuruan (East Java) were used in this study. Analysis of physical and mechanical properties were referred to BS 373-1957. Yopo wood powder (60 mesh) were used for chemical composition analysis referred to Mokushitsu Kagaku Jiken Manual. Determination of anatomical properties were referred to Standard of International Association of Wood Anatomist (IAWA). The results showed that based on the physical–mechanical properties, anatomical features and chemical components, Yopo wood could be classified into the strength class III–II; this wood has the potential and allows it to be developed and used as raw materials for construction, furniture, or as raw material for bioethanol.
