Given the trend of population aging in India, the older persons face a number of problems, which range from absence of ensured and sufficient income to support themselves and their dependents, to ill-health, to absence of social security, to loss of a social role and recognition, to the lack of opportunities for creative use of free time. Due to the demographic changes in society and the changing family context, it can no longer be assumed that our elderly live comfortably at home receiving care from family members. In view of this trend, there is a strong need to strengthen the institutional and other external support systems for older persons. One of the major ways is to initiate and strengthen the interactions among the various organizations working for their care.
