Concluding Remarks: Reconciling Dual-Use Objects with the Key Tenets of International Humanitarian Law
摘要
The present chapter aims at providing some concluding remarks on the analysis carried out in this work. First, the chapter will summarise the main findings of the book and further clarify some of the key issues that this inquiry has addressed, including the definition of dual-use objects, the need to reconcile this notion with the IHL framework in force and the two pillars of the proposed new paradigm. Second, this chapter will introduce some preliminary considerations on the potential application of the new paradigm to the ever-expanding field of new weapons and technologies. Without claiming to bring a significant contribution to the ongoing debate on autonomous weapons systems (AWS) and the militarisation of artificial intelligence (AI), this chapter stresses that the book’s findings bear some relevance also in this domain.
