Implant failure is often due to inadequate osseointegration, influenced by factors such as systemic diseases, surgical trauma, aggressive therapies, biomechanical overload and biofilm formation, which contribute to inflammation and bone loss. Modifying implant surfaces with protective or bioactive coatings provides potential solutions, improving corrosion resistance, antimicrobial properties and osseointegration. Advanced coatings, such as hydroxyapatite and bioactive glass, show promise in promoting cell adhesion and early bone integration, to improve the longevity and success of implants. Various techniques, including sol-gel, electrochemical deposition and plasma spraying, have been used to apply these coatings.

摘要
