Liquid Crystal Materials in Biotechnology
摘要
Liquid crystal (LC) exhibits unique properties which can be highly suitable for various applications in biotechnology. This chapter explores the integration of LC materials in the field of biotechnology, focusing on their use in biosensing, drug delivery systems, and tissue engineering scaffolds. The anisotropic nature of LC molecules and their responsiveness to external stimuli, enables the development of advanced biosensors with high sensitivity and selectivity, capable of detecting a wide range of biological targets. Additionally, LC-based drug delivery systems are effective in controlling drug release, enhancing therapeutic efficacy, and minimizing side effects. In tissue engineering, LC scaffolds provide condutive environments for cell growth and differentiation, facilitating the regeneration of complex tissues. Through detailed examples and discussions, this chapter highlights the versatility and potential of LC materials in advancing biological research and applications.
