The purpose of this paper is to remind readers of the fact that Handel has a history with France that started long before what is now remembered as the so-called Händel-Renaissance of the twentieth century. Our present aim, more specifically, is to demonstrate that early nineteenth-century France played an important role not only in the discovery and appreciation of Handelian repertoires, but also in the creation of what might be called a Handel mythology, a way of mediating or projecting a Handel image specifically viewed from France, an image which may or may not correspond to the reality that we know today.

摘要
