The year of 1828 was particularly characterized as having been a time of great creative production. Schubert himself confessed his zealous urge to achieve artistic excellence. The A major Sonata was composed as part of the piano trilogy D 958–960, which was originally dedicated to the pianist and composer Johann Nepomuk Hummel.
