Impressions: the “Viennese” vs. “Cultural Appropriation”
摘要
The simultaneous “awakening of a national consciousness [taking place] within the European people at the beginning of the 19th-Century […]” led to “ […] national dances being integrated into art music”. Schubert himself wrote around 500 dances, many among them having emerged out of improvisations at the piano. Consequently, these dances are anchored within a folk musical tradition, i.e., they present folk music characteristics, reflect musically the Austrian idiom and are strongly linked to societal values.
