The Venom of Living Fossils—Scorpions
摘要
Scorpions are living fossils. They are the oldest terrestrial animals on Earth. They appeared in the Paleozoic era, have survived all the planet’s catastrophes, and have reached the present day almost unchanged. They are remarkably resilient. Their representatives live both in deserts and at altitudes of 7,500 m. Scorpions can survive up to 386 days without water and food and endure exposure to 150,000 roentgens. For humans, 600 roentgens are lethal. A macabre joke among some scientists is that after a nuclear war, only scorpions and blue-green algae will remain on Earth.
