Introduction: Intelligent Machines Are Changing the World
摘要
Artificial intelligence (AI) is fundamentally transforming university studies and is increasingly becoming an integral part of academic work processes. The introductory chapter describes this transformation and highlights the opportunities, challenges, and uncertainties that arise for students and instructors. It illustrates how widespread the use of generative AI already is, the potential it holds for learning and academic work, and which competencies will be particularly in demand in the future. At the same time, it becomes clear that clear guidelines, institutional support, and didactic concepts are often lacking. These gaps lead to uncertainty in dealing with AI and raise questions about academic integrity, responsibility, and transparency. The chapter therefore emphasizes the need for a structural and cultural framework for the reflective use of AI in higher education. Against this background, the book positions itself as a practical guide that supports both students and instructors in the competent use of AI applications such as ChatGPT and provides orientation for the responsible use of AI in academic work.
