There is no data available on the frequency, causes, and consequences of adverse events in physiotherapy. A literature review regarding risks in electrotherapy shows that, in fact, serious harm to patients can occur in many applications; see the notes on risks and side effects for the various applications. The few publications available are primarily case reports, with the causes and consequences of the harm being further analyzed in only two cases. The situation described below demonstrates the necessity of introducing risk management in physiotherapy. This can be implemented in a hospital or a practice with little effort, involving only a few people under the leadership of a specially trained colleague, and can be accomplished in a relatively short time. The results of such work can be published in a professional journal, thereby familiarizing colleagues with the objectives and background of risk management. Furthermore, demonstrating the feasibility of such a project is intended to encourage therapists to engage more closely with the risks inherent in our profession.

摘要
