This chapter addresses the sustainability of learned consumption strategies. Change requires not only short-term control over impulse purchases, but also long-term adjustments to one’s own patterns of thinking. It explains how relapses can be recognized and managed, and how it is possible to build a life beyond consumer addiction. Psychological mechanisms of behavioral change, such as the importance of routines and positive reinforcement, are discussed.
