Caring and Justice: Towards a Model of Careful Justice and Just Care
摘要
This chapter explores the relationship between care and justice. It argues that the two are interwoven. Although historically the ethics of care literature has drawn a sharp distinction between an ethics of justice and an ethics of care, in the contemporary literature these are seen as interdependent concepts. It is not possible to have justice without care, nor care without justice. The chapter offers a brief introduction to the concepts of care and justice between making the case that each depend on each other. The chapter then explores the practical difficulties in producing just care and careful justice. This requires a complete reworking of the political, social and legal systems which privileges economic productivity, towards a society in which caring relationships are at its heart.
