No object in our universe stimulates the imagination more than a black hole. Many science fiction authors have written about it and attributed the most fantastic properties to it, such as enabling time travel, wormholes, superluminal speed, and much more. We treat black holes here like all other gravitational phenomena described so far, namely soberly, and ask ourselves what can be quantitatively stated or specifically measured about black holes.
