We distinguish between two types of curve integrals: scalar curve integrals and vector curve integrals. In a scalar curve integral, a scalar field is integrated along a curve, in the vector case a vector field. In applications, the scalar integrals determine a mass or charge of the described curve, while the vector integrals determine work done when a particle is moved along the curve.
