The outdated belief that there are healthy and unhealthy foods is still firmly entrenched in most people’s minds. However, this is not the case. What may still sound surprising is, in fact, since 2019 the institutional expert consensus of the German Nutrition Society (DGE), the Swiss Society for Nutrition (SGE), the Austrian Nutrition Society (ÖGE), the German Federal Center for Nutrition (BZfE), the German Institute of Human Nutrition Potsdam-Rehbrücke (DIfE), as well as the two professional associations in Germany and Austria, the Association of Oecotrophologists (VDOE) and the Association of Nutrition Scientists of Austria (VEÖ). In addition to Chap. 16 this insight is also another empowering building block for those wishing to lose weight, enabling them to rely on their bodily sensations when choosing foods for weight reduction, rather than restricting their free choice of food based on fictitious “healthy” or “unhealthy” categories.
