Healthy (health-equitable) cities consider not only health-promoting and health-inhibiting environmental conditions, but also living situations and social inequalities that lead to different prerequisites for individual health. With this perspective, the article explores how, on possible paths to healthy (health-equitable) cities, participation and involvement of the population at the neighborhood level can be promoted, and what roles the municipality and the social work profession can play in this process. To this end, the article first addresses conceptual reference points of healthy and health-equitable cities, second, the concepts of neighborhood, participation, and involvement in reflection of their connections to healthy (health-equitable) cities, and third, supportive approaches in the contexts of municipal administration and social work.
