Subjective experience of illness is influenced by socialization, biography, and the developed identity of the affected individual. This article focuses on the care and illness experience of people with cognitive impairments, such as those present in various forms of dementia, and approaches these aspects by presenting the theoretical foundations of Tom Kitwood's person-centered approach, Christoph Held's three worlds principle, and Naomi Feil's validation.
