Numbers and Facts About FQAD
摘要
Fluoroquinolones are highly effective—but due to their serious spectrum of side effects—also extremely problematic group of antibiotics. Severe long-term damage, including disabilities and fatalities, has been observed in large numbers. The associated syndrome-like condition is now recognized as “fluoroquinolone-associated disability” (FQAD). Despite the dramatic progression in affected individuals and the significant economic impact, regulatory authorities issued warnings too late, too hesitantly, and inadequately. The history of fluoroquinolones is therefore also the history of a major pharmaceutical scandal.
