In the context of mobile communications, a new threat has emerged alongside traditional phishing methods: smishing, a portmanteau of SMS phishing. This specific type of phishing attack targets mobile users via SMS and other instant messaging services. Similar to traditional phishing and spear phishing, the aim of smishing is to steal sensitive information, prompt recipients to take certain actions, and infect mobile devices with malware.
