The article attempts a spotlight-like foray through contemporary children’s and youth literary productions of death and writing. It discusses that not only is death negotiated through writing, but that, conversely, writing discourses linked to the staging of death are also invoked. In this context, the focus will be on potential differences between the staged writing media – whether writing is analogue or digital (see Jakobi 2021). Furthermore, material and paratextual elements will be discussed alongside narratological aspects to make visible how death inscribes itself into the staged writing, and this in turn into the texts.

摘要

The article attempts a spotlight-like foray through contemporary children’s and youth literary productions of death and writing. It discusses that not only is death negotiated through writing, but that, conversely, writing discourses linked to the staging of death are also invoked. In this context, the focus will be on potential differences between the staged writing media – whether writing is analogue or digital (see Jakobi 2021). Furthermore, material and paratextual elements will be discussed alongside narratological aspects to make visible how death inscribes itself into the staged writing, and this in turn into the texts.
