Although writing is often seen as solitary, static, and uneventful films continue to depict writing scenes. The article examines writing scenes in biopics about children’s and young adult literature authors. These scenes are typically formulaic (with close-ups of hands and face, views out of windows, and the inner voice narrating the text being written) yet complex when analyzed closely. Various strategies are employed to depict the writers’ struggle for their literary works. These strategies include choosing specific locations for inspiration or reflecting power dynamics through access (or no access) to private writing spaces. The materiality of writing instruments also plays a role in shaping narratives and can lead to disruptions or anachronisms. The article suggests that filmic representations of writing are always reflective acts – scenes that reconstruct the act of writing while also interpreting it through cinematic techniques. Biopics transform what might seem mundane into engaging narratives that reveal internal emotions, imaginations, collaborative efforts, and ultimately give cinematic quality to the act of writing.

摘要
