„Und zu Weihnacht kommt eine Kindergeschichte“. Johanna Spyri als Akteurin im literarischen Feld des späten 19. Jahrhunderts
摘要
This chapter examines Johanna Spyri’s role within the literary field of the late 19th century, focusing on her strategic positioning as an author. Despite Spyri’s limited legacy beyond the Heidi novels, her inclusion in UNESCO’s Memory of the World Register highlights the enduring transmedia impact of her most famous work. Spyri’s authorial practices reflect a deliberate interplay between anonymity and fame. While aligning her early works with pietistic and edifying literature, Spyri transitioned to a more autonomous literary identity with Heidi, crossing boundaries between children’s and young (female) adult literature. The chapter explores how Spyri navigated gendered and genre-specific constraints, leveraging cross-writing techniques and peritextual framing. Furthermore, it investigates her avoidance of autobiographical revelations, emphasizing the social and literary strategies that sustained her public persona. By analyzing archival materials and correspondence, the article sheds light on Spyri’s nuanced engagement with the literary field and her legacy as an enigmatic yet influential author.
