Lessing and Goethe
摘要
Lessing and Goethe never met. When Goethe learns of Lessing’s death, he is affected. On the very same day, he writes to Charlotte von Stein: “Hardly anything could have happened to me more fatal than Lessing’s death. Not a quarter of an hour before the news came, I was making plans to visit him. We are losing much, much more in him than we think” (Feb 20, 1782; as cited in WB 3, 5)
