In this chapter, we consider plane load-bearing structures that consist exclusively of straight bars that are connected to each other by ideal hinges and that are loaded exclusively by point forces acting in the hinges. Such structures are known as trusses. We will investigate how to determine the forces in the members of trusses and will familiarise ourselves with both analytical procedures and a purely graphical method.
