This chapter is dedicated to the treatment of force systems and deals first of all with plane central force systems, i.e. force systems in which the lines of action of the forces all intersect at one point. We deal with how forces can be summarised and also decomposed and also introduce the very basic concept of equilibrium. The considerations are then extended to spatial central force systems before we turn to the treatment of general plane force systems. The concepts of couple and moment are introduced, and we also consider moment systems. In addition, we address the question of how forces can be displaced in parallel, introduce the moment of a force and expand the concept of equilibrium. The chapter concludes with the treatment of general spatial force systems.

摘要
